Sutherin, Oregon

Good Morning!

We have moved on from Gold Beach. It was kind of sad saying goodbye to one of our favorite places in Oregon but time marches on and our month there was up. We drove inland for about 130 miles to a little town just North of Roseburg called Sutherlin. It’s not a very big town (which is so nice) but very active.

There is an Escapees SKP park here that we have put our name on their waiting list for a space. We did this in 2008 and found out this last month that we were number 22. Yikes! We moved up from about 180 in 4 years. We don’t expect to get into the park for a year or so but we may have to adjust that thinking because by the time we leave we may have moved up 4 spaces on the list!

We love this place. Oregon is one place (well I am a native Oregonian) that we love and do want to live here when we decide to hang up our keys. This area feels good and I believe we could call it home one day.

We are in space 192 which is on the outer edge of the park. We like this spot because we have grass behind us and then the creek. As you can see by this photo the spaces here are quite large and we don’t feel like everyone is squeezed in.

So far, we have seen wild turkeys, deer and bunny rabbits roaming around the park. We are backed up to a mountain range so the wild life comes to visit!

The park is very active. There is something going on most nights. There are some guys here who like to cook and put on dinners for the members. We hit a night where they made baked potatoes and everyone brought toppings. My goodness, what a spread. There was chili, cheeses, butter, sour cream, broccoli in all kinds of forms, bacon bits, and plain beans. It was all good and we went home full.

This area is the dinning room/kitchen. On the far side is a card room and library. On the right side is a huge room with a stage, dance floor, and exercise equipment. On the back side is the laundry room with 6 front loaders and dryers. Now all they need is a pool and hot tub and throw in a clothesline!

We will be leaving here on Wednesday. We are stopping in Grants Pass to see friends and pick up our mail. Then off to Lodi to visit with family and celebrate Dale’s birthday.

Life IS good. God blesses us so much!

Unfortunately, Sue, we are only 22 on the list. Since anyone in the park is eligible to take whatever site becomes available, we will probably have to wait awhile to get a spot as good as this one. It is on the outer edge of the park and probably a primo space. It belongs to another now.
