Break + Fast = Metabolism Boost

Think about the word breakfast: “break” + “fast.” Going without food all night causes your metabolism to go into hibernation and slow down. This is important because it helps you to relax and fall asleep. It also allows your body to devote its energy to reparative work while you’re sleeping.

However, your metabolism will not “turn back on” until it knows you are awake. When you break the fast by eating your favorite morning meal, you’re letting your body know to get that metabolism up and running. To jump-start your metabolism and burn the most calories over the course of the day, eat as soon as you get up.

    I am not an Oprah fan at all and although she is right about this… I have dropped so much weight doing this…. I eat a high fiber snack about 3 hours before bed and so things really get working – with that and a good break FAST I’m vering with energy.

    I remember hearing that explanation for break-fast years ago, but I had forgotten–and also forget to eat breakfast a lot, too. And it shows. 😦

    Anyway, welcome to the Southeast. Sounds like you are having a wonderful time. I hope it just gets better and better for you!

    I enjoyed reading about your crafts and your crafting friends. Also enjoyed seeing your shawl-to-be and the beading. What a wonderful, portable traveling hobby.

    Am envying your full-timing, but certainly enjoying it vicariously. 🙂

    Evie, I am thinking someone else said it first before Oprah. Sounds like an “old” saying to me. Not a fan either. But through the years and reading healthy type books on eating, breakfast is important for a lot of reasons for your body. Eating 1 hour after getting up is crucial for blood sugar and hormones. This works well if one exercises during that hour thus working off the belly fat before eating.
