When we first came to this area we had to go see Mountainair. We have been through so many NM towns, so we were quite happy with this one because it has a coffee shop, laundromat and a grocery store! We stopped in at Alpine Alley for lunch and was quite surprised at the interior of the place and the food. The people there were friendly and we enjoyed ourselves so much. You can see the inside at http://rvecafe.com/nmex09.html#0622 and http://rvecafe.com/Assets4/nmex21dL.jpg
Yesterday we went to the parade Mountainair was having for the 4th of July. I was surprised by the people who lined the streets. A great turnout!
Main Street 3rd of July!
We then went out-of-town about 5 miles to a sheep herding trials. We met a couple from Florida, Sandy and Roger, at the Shaffer Hotel.
We got to talking to them and exchanged history. We found out that she was showing their Corgie and so we had to go see this happen. It was a very hot day but we stuck out the couple of hours we were there to see her show her dog. Wiley was the only Corgie amongst all the Shepherds and Border Collies. He did pretty good with those short legs.
We ended our day in Mountainair by going to a “Stuff Sale” at the Methodist Church where I picked up some books and then out to lunch at Jerry’s Ancients Cafe. We enjoyed their buffet of salad bar, BBQ beef, chicken or fried chicken, mashed potatoes and two kinds of gravy, corn on the cob and green beans. It was soooooo good! And soooooo off the Zone!
