Eastern California on Hwy 395

Posted on Updated on

Hi! Time to get back to blogging. We are settled in our spot out here in the desert of Arizona. Lots of sunshine to keep the solar power going strong! It is windy today so a good time to relax after visiting family for the last month and a half.

Hwy 395 in Eastern California is one of our most favorite roads to travel. The Sierra Nevada’s are so spectacular.  Since Dale and I just zip on down this road to Arizona or up the road to Reno, we haven’t stopped to check out what is in the area. We have decided we need to come back to this area and go exploring.

After visiting with Evie and Jorge, we moved on the next day keeping to our schedule to arrive at Ft. Irwin on Sunday. Here are some scenes from our journey taking Hwy 395 South.

We stopped along the Walker River in a day use area for lunch. The signs told us that back in the 90’s the river flooded and left behind a 400 foot cliff in the middle of the road. It took 6 months to clear.

conwaysummitI think this is the highest spot we got to in these mountains.

Then there is the sign truckers and RVers don’t like to see!
Yet, the descent is manageable. Just  some wear and tear on the brakes.steepgrade

Looking across the valley – a spectacular sight. The road below is where we will be eventually. monolake

This is Mono Lake.

The mountains are incredible, don’t you agree?sierrianev

Great life! I’ve enjoyed your journal of the trip and all the pictures. I’m so jealous when I see you in a t-shirt while I’m in my parka! Love, C
